Visiting Chinese Headphone Factory: Everything You Need to Know About True Wireless Earbuds

Are you tired of traditional wired headphones that wrap around your ears and lock you down while running and working out? The wireless Bluetooth headphones are revolutionizing the industry by storm, providing more ease listening to music while at the same time you can focus on your things.

In 2016 when Apple removed the headphone jack in their latest phones, many users are petrified, how would they use the traditional wired headphones to listen to the music? A few years ago, Bluetooth headphones were not considered as a quality choice as back then the audio transmission standards were quite lacked behind and the battery was not up to the impressive marks.

Today, with the advancing of technology, there’s a whopping variety of Bluetooth headphones to choose from, and they’re indisputably more convenient to listen to music on the go than traditional wired headphones.

What’s the difference of “wireless” and “true wireless”?

The most distinctive difference is wireless headphones feature a cord connecting both buds while true wireless headphones are completely free of any cable or connector between the earpieces or a phone jack.

What are the benefits of true wireless earbuds?

There’re a few prominent perks that make true wireless earbuds more sought after than the traditional counterparts.

* Convenience

Having a cord can really get in the way whether you’re working or running daily errands, on the contrary, true wireless earbuds set you free without any constraints of cable or connector. With increasing Bluetooth range and headphone models featuring portable music storage, you can move freely untethered from your phone.

* Easy pairing

Paring your wireless earbuds with your device is simply a breeze without any plugging in. For most wireless earphones, once your earphones are set up and paired to your device, they will automatically connect for future uses.

* Wireless charging

Technology has been constantly improving, and now you can just simply wirelessly charge your wireless device.

How are true wireless earbuds made?

Sound producing system

The centerpiece of any headphone is the sound producing system, where the frame is built around. There’re various kinds of sound systems. In most cases, a magnet being wrapped with a coil of wire is placed in each earbud, creating a magnetic field. When electric signals are sent to the wire, another different magnetic force is created, and the two forces together create the sound vibrations picked up by our ears.

For premium quality headphones with stricter requirements on audio quality, the design gets more complicated. For example, some models come with two coil-magnet devices, one for bass sounds while the other is for treble sounds. Besides, a membrane is used for a more precise control of sound waves. When the membrane is charged with battery, it moves, and the movements are later picked up by a mini-amplifier, and become the sounds we hear.

The balanced armature design, the most complicated and advanced method used to produce sound, uses the same membrane theory but with an added revolving magnet within the overall magnetic field. When powered by electricity, the magnet pivots, and the membrane moves, creating the sound.

Adding peripheral components

Once the sound producing system has been completed, peripheral components would be added to carry out other tasks. A control system would be included, where users can control volume of the songs, or change song tracks with buttons on their earphones. For better sound quality with minimal distortion, noise cancelling system, sound leakage and binaural patterns are carefully studied to detect outside noise as well as generating signals to counteract the noise.

Visiting a headphone factory in Shenzhen

Last week, our team at Business in Shenzhen had the honor of visiting a China electronic factory producing true wireless headphones, and discovered how those tiny earbuds were brought into life. The Chinese headphone factory is located in the outskirt of Bao’an, spreading over 1,000 square meters.

The workers along the assembly lines are working with a calmness that is simply admirable.

The design team is currently busy working on another design of true wireless headphone for the next production.

Various types of equipment, earphone moulds are available on site.
